The concept of students reading, learning, and exploring ideas prior to attending the class lecture time is nothing new. The "flipped classroom" is all the rage in the education circles today, but does it work to improve educational outcomes? This session will demonstrate the use of Canvas as a medium for creating a learning environment wherein students preview content, meet pre-lecture objectives, formulate understanding of material, and provides feedback to the instructor before they come to the scheduled class. The presenter will demonstrate features of Canvas that instructors may use to begin teaching students, assessing understanding, and interpreting student needs before regular class.
Dean Brereton, MSN, RN, is an Assistant Professor of Nursing at Snow College. He has taught Canvas courses in hybrid and wholly online environments. He taught a introduction to Canvas previously at UCET.
